Connecting CanERA and CBME
Alignment of accreditation reform with competency-based medical education (CBME)
The previous accreditation system was designed to evaluate the traditional education model; it was not designed to support, and/or evaluate competency-based medical education (CBME) programs. As such, CanERA was developed to reflect the increasing number of residency programs shifting to a CBME model; outcomes-based education requires outcomes-based accreditation.
